Claire’s Stage 6 studio goes on display at Newcastle University Architecture Planning and Landscape ( APL) degree show this week. In collaboration with Prof Prue Chiles, the studio examined sustainable food, energy and housing futures for the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania beyond the islands current dependence on tourism. The team spent several weeks in-bedded in the community working with a local government planner and studying the conditions that shape and influence the island. The team also assisted a group of residents to build sanitary shower and WCs to provide low cost facilities.
