In late 2023, we finished a book about a campaign we worked on to save a local concrete masterpiece from demolition. The book includes essays from Martin Roberts, Alan Powers, Owen Hatherley, Sally Ann Norman and many others charting the history of the building from conception, to the charrette to save, to campaign and listing. The charrette compiles alternative propositions for the future of the building with architects 6A, Hawkins Brown, Levitt Bernstein, Studio Shaw and Mawson Kerr, support by engineering consultants Webb Yates, Studio Horn, ATKII, and Skelly and Couch.
The book features commentary on the lessons learnt from how to campaign and challenge Durham Universities path towards demolition and the output of five architect-led teams to challenge the decision to demolish. The book is 117 pages, 240 x 160mm, Numbered Limited Edition (400).
