Hatton Showcase – Designs for a touring pavilion

Showcase: Designs for a Touring Pavilion

We have appointed to work with the Hatton Gallery as part of their work to  deliver a new demountable pavilion for Newcastle and Gateshead to showcase the Hatton Gallery. The new structure aims to maintain the profile of the Hatton whilst it is closed for a £3.8million refurbishment, which has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.  Harper Perry have been appointed to work with the artists Catrin Huber, Toby Paterson, and duo Harriet Sutcliffe & Jack Mutton and developing proposals for a touring pavilion.

From 30 July – 23 October, the shortlisted works feature as part of an exhibition at the Laing Gallery, Newcastle. The exhibition features life-size and scaled proposals for the offsite commission, original works and artist selected work from Victor Pamore, Richard Hamilton, Eduardo Paolozzi and many more of the Hatton Galleries collection.

Visitors are invited to comment on the proposals and an independent panel of judges will decide which artist will go on to complete the pavilion which will tour around Newcastle and Gateshead in spring/summer 2017.  Showcase: Designs for a Touring Pavilion has been supported by money raised through Arts Council England’s Catalyst Arts: capacity building and match funding scheme and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The new structure will have to be easily demountable and reassembled as part of a tour across various key sites in the region which will include BALTIC contemporary gallery, Newcastle University, the Laing Gallery and other sites to be confirmed.
